Hooks
A hook adds rules to a Uniswap V4 pool. For a launch creator, the choice comes down to two questions: should the trading fee stay fixed, and should some fee income fund an ongoing trading strategy?
Each pool has one hook, shared by all its liquidity ranges. Choosing a hook does not change the token's supply or unlock its launch liquidity. Native Abyss pools use their own pool types, not this V4 hook menu.
Compare the four choices
| Hook | Fee and strategy |
|---|---|
| Abyssal Hook | Fixed fee, no inventory strategy. Available income follows your launch allocation. |
| Dynamic Fee Hook | Changing fee, no inventory strategy. Faster recorded price rises increase the fee up to your maximum. |
| Hook Market Maker | Fixed fee, HMM strategy. A chosen share funds bids and resale offers; the rest follows your launch allocation. |
| Dynamic Hook Market Maker | Changing fee, HMM strategy. Faster recorded rises or falls increase the fee. A chosen share funds the same bids and resale offers. |
The two dynamic hooks are not identical fee policies. Dynamic Fee Hook responds to upward moves. Dynamic Hook Market Maker responds to the size of moves in either direction. Both charge the resulting rate on buys and sells; neither is simply a buy tax or sell tax.
Make the choice
- Start with fee behavior. A fixed rate is easier for traders to anticipate. A dynamic rate lets you charge more during the activity it measures, but traders may pay substantially more than the base fee.
- Decide whether to reinvest fees in trading inventory. HMM, short for Hook Market Maker, uses fee income to buy below price and offer tokens above price. This reduces the income immediately available for owners, rewards or burns.
- For HMM, choose the strategy share. The app offers 25%, 50% or 100%, starting at 50%. The share applies after the protocol treasury allocation, in each token earned. At 100%, none of that remaining hook-fee income goes to the ordinary launch allocation.
- Check the fee denomination. The standard launch starts with Quote only. Both tokens charges each swap's input token: quote on a buy, launch token on a sell. It does not charge both assets on every swap. Quote only charges the quote asset on both sides. A quote asset is what traders use to price and buy the token.
All four app integrations use zero hook-author royalty and permit outside liquidity. Outside providers can withdraw their own liquidity; the initial launch positions stay permanently locked. The hook choice and trading-fee policy are fixed for that pool. HMM's fee owner can change the strategy share and strategy settings after launch, or pause new placements.
UFG treasury launches require the separate UFG fixed/dynamic quote-only V4 profiles; the ordinary profiles above and both HMM hooks are not eligible.
What traders should check
Use the current swap quote, not just a pool's base fee. A dynamic fee can rise to its configured maximum. Fees, price impact and gas are separate costs, and HMM maintenance can add execution work to a swap.
All four hooks record a truncated oracle, a price history that limits how far its recorded price moves at each eligible update. It can lag the live market. It neither caps the trading price nor supplies an independent fair value.
No hook guarantees liquidity at a particular price, profitable trading, or protection against a falling token price. HMM bids are limited by the strategy's available funds and settings. They are not a price floor.
